This paper is a preliminary study and a part of my doctoral thesis which seeks to analyse, through a theoretical background and the field work, how the ties with the origin can affect the integration process of Turkish  immigrants into Italian society and furthermore the impact of migration on family relations in recent Turkish immigrants in Italy. These aspects have been analysed in a qualitative study, exploratory in nature, through interviews with first-generation Turkish migrants identified by snowballing who are currently residing in Novara, a city located in the Piedmont region in the northwest Italy.

As it is indicated in the introduction, the volume offers a useful handbook for those who are interested in issues related to Turkish migration in Europe. Given the fact that migration is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon, to comprehend it, requires a multidimensional and multidisciplinary approach, as this essay-collection book has. Chapters in the book may be grouped under some main categories, analyzes Turkish migration to Europe and its relative issues as like identity strategies and patterns of integration, with different methodological approchaes and therotical perspectives. While some field researches are conducted with quantitative methods and by using secondary material, some others are qualitative field researches which are conducted through grounded theory or life experience method and they are mainly based on face-to-face knowledge of individuals.

Sinemanın sahip olduğu imkanlar doğrultusunda gerçekliği dilediği gibi kullanabileceği ve onları dönüştürebileceğini fark etmesiyle ideolojik çıkarlara hizmet etmeye yönelik filmlerin çekilmeye başlanması aynı dönemlere denk gelmektedir. Bu tezde hem politik filmlerin tarihçesi, sahip oldukları temalar, maruz kaldıkları sansür uygulamaları hem de politik film adı altında zikredilmeyen filmlerin nasıl politik söylemlere sahip olduğu incelenmiştir. Örneklem olarak seçilen Türk ve İtalyan sineması ile konu pekiştirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

This paper is a preliminary study and a part of my doctoral thesis which seeks to analyse the transformation of family practices among Turkish1 immigrants in Italy through qualitative and exploratory interviews with first generation Turkish migrants identified by snowball sampling (N.30, two interviews for each family) who are currently residing in North Italy. Men and women are interviewed, as much as possible, separately and their migration experience is analyzed through their family relations. Turkish migration to Italy is a typical example of male migration where men migrate first and later occurs the family reunification. Among those interviewed there is a high presence of consanguineous marriage (especially between first-cousins) and the traditional arranged marriages are very common. In generally, male migrant's mother chooses her best nephew as her future daughter in-law. In some cases, men, can not leave the host country while their asylum application are processed and for that reason they can't participate in their own engagement or wedding ceremony. Thus, women get married alone and meet their husband only when men are allowed to invite their spouses for family reunification. So, this paper, in the light of the recent literature on transnational families, examines, through in-depth interviews, the transnational experiences of Turkish migrant women and their family formation. 1 In this study, 'Turkish' refers to people with a passport of the Republic of Turkey, regardless of their ethnicity.

These aspects have been analysed through qualitative and exploratory interviews with first generation Turkish migrants identified by snowball sampling (N.30, two interviews for each family) who are currently residing in North Italy (Novara). Questions are outlined around a few major topics, such as the history of the family, their migration choice, the comparison between 'here' and 'there', the migration experiences and the changes that it produces in the family relationships, the difficulties and community networks, etc. Through analysing an understudied community in Italy like the Turkish one within a perspective of family relations, this research proposes to provide an original resource both for Turkish migration and for family studies.

Gül İnce Beqo1 This paper is a part of my PhD research which seeks to analyse the impact of migration on family relations of Turkish immigrants in Italy, and the way ties with the country of origin can affect their future plans. These aspects have been analysed in a qualitative study through 38 interviews with Turkish migrants who are currently residing in Northern Italy. Building on the literature on gender and transnationalism, this paper, through the narratives of male and female migrants whose marriage ended in divorce, investigates the family dissolution among Turkish migrants in Italy. The results suggest that extended family ties are important determinants for deciding or deferring divorce. Moreover, while women feel responsible of maintaining family unity in both contexts, in some cases, migration has negative effects on men’s attitude towards familial responsibilities. Such behavioral differences between men and women in terms of conjugal fidelity stem from the social environment in which Turkish migrants are immersed, since it encourages men to change while for women there are not many opportunities for change both at family and personal level.
